    Responsibilities

    • Maintains product service level agreements and standards of multiple major production system subcomponents through proactive and reactive means
    • Implements operational initiatives and projects of high complexity intended either to increase the efficiency and scalability of a rapidly growing infrastructure or that provide significant business value
    • Supports development environments and developers in their mission as creators of future online products
    • Performs complex technical work requiring demonstrated experience in the application of standard techniques and procedures in carrying out tasks; utilizes extensive experience and knowledge to improve the existing processes and company operating procedures
    • Automate deployment, maintenance, and support tasks for the connected fabric; which builds the foundation layer for our services and products.
    • Design, test, and deploy monitoring systems which enable the infrastructure to self-heal (and raise an alert if it can't)
    • Calculate the risks of working in a live, 24x7 production environment.
    • Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision are key
    • Use technical expertise and experience to generate ideas and guidance for our environment and to see your projects to completion
    • Build relationships with our internal technology partners, and contribute to an environment that empowers developers to rapidly deploy high-quality code into production.
    • Work with architects and security experts to ensure services are secure. Identify weak points and fix them.
    • Participate in an on-call rotation

    Qualifications

    If you’ve read this far, and think this is the right job for you, please be ready to talk about your experience working with several of the following technologies and concepts for at least 7-8 years in a live environment: 

    • Linux systems administration: automation, configuration, troubleshooting, networking, and scripting skills.
    • Understand the concept of Software Configuration Management (SCM) and have worked with Puppet or other SCM tools
    • Demonstrated experience with development of automation tools (building Puppet modules or Ansible playbooks, for example)
    • Experience using source control systems such as GitLab and Atlassian Bitbucket
    • Working knowledge of public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
    • Hands on knowledge of database technologies such as MySQL, Cassandra, or Microsoft SQL
    • Experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM, Hyper-V, or vSphere
    • Familiarity with monitoring systems and concepts, such as Grafana, Elasticsearch, Zenoss with Telegraf and also including cloud-based systems such as Pingdom, NewRelic, AWS Cloudwatch
    • Knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language, such as Bash or Python
